Case Study: Emory College in New York City — Alumni Connections Documented by Experienced Visuals

When Emory College brought its alumni engagement program to New York City, the mission was clear: connect current students with the real-world experiences of alumni shaping industries across the city. Experienced Visuals was invited to document this journey as faculty, students, and staff met with graduates working in media, finance, the arts, and public service. The emphasis was on capturing not just faces and places, but the tangible exchange of ideas — how classroom theory evolves into career practice through mentorship and shared curiosity.

Our approach combined documentary-style coverage with a focus on perspective and process. As students moved through meetings, studios, and offices, the cameras followed with a sense of observation rather than intrusion, letting authentic moments unfold. These interactions — a student asking an alum about creative risk-taking, or a small group huddled around a financial model — became the emotional core of the project. The imagery was designed to feel immediate and lived-in, showing how academic ambition meets the rhythm of New York City’s working world.

For Emory, the documentation offered more than a record of an event; it became a visual bridge between campus and career. The collection now serves as a storytelling asset for admissions, alumni relations, and advancement — proof that learning continues long after graduation, and that the university’s network thrives in real-world environments. Through the lens of Experienced Visuals, these moments reflected Emory’s evolving identity as a community grounded in inquiry and driven by impact.

To cover the program’s split focus between the arts and business tracks, photographers Ryan Muir and Tod Seelie collaborated seamlessly across parallel agendas. While Muir captured the creative energy of the arts visits — from design studios to performance spaces — Seelie followed the business and finance sessions, emphasizing mentorship and leadership in professional settings. Their complementary perspectives under our team expertise gave Emory a complete visual narrative: two worlds, one mission, connected through the students’ firsthand engagement with alumni in action.
