New Energy: The Solar Powered Music Festival

Eartheater

New Energy is exactly what its name promises: a fresh, ground-breaking take on the music festival experience.

Presented in collaboration with veteran NYC event producers AdHoc, the environmental activism collective DER Task Force, and the nonprofit Solar Punks—who work to integrate solar power into music, art, and fashion events—the all-day festival was powered entirely by batteries charged with solar energy. Every set, every light, every moment ran on clean power, proving that sustainability and large-scale live entertainment can coexist seamlessly.

Junglepussy

This was a born-and-bred NYC event — conceived and curated by New Yorkers while also highlighting the talents of forward-thinking local artists who have driven the cultural conversation in the city for the last decade. We trekked to Governors Island and were treated to performances by homegrown MC Junglepussy, the esoteric and inimitable Eartheater, Doss, Gift, and Ivan Berko.

There is no one better than Ryan Muir for shooting events and concerts in NYC. He is always the first photographer we reach out to, and he never disappoints! Not only are his photos incredible, we never have to worry about him on-site because he’s always in the middle of the action and following our shot lists.

“If that generator over there were burning gas, we’d all be dead right now!”

- DER Task force

Beyond the technology, New Energy stood as a model for how art and activism can merge to create something both visionary and fun. From its Governor’s Island setting to a lineup that reflected a cross-section of New York’s most forward-thinking artists, the event offered a glimpse of what the future of festivals could look like: community-driven, environmentally conscious, and built for genuine connection between performers, audiences, and the planet itself.

The New Energy concert served as the exclamation point to a weeklong run of events at the DERVOS 2025 Conference.

Throughout the week, the DER Task Force brought together thought leaders and major players in the energy sector for panel discussions and demo days—culminating, in the clean energy festival.

It was especially rewarding to see our documentation take on a life of its own—shared by performing artists like Junglepussy on Instagram and featured prominently in the festival recap, channeling that collective energy right back into the cause.

The efforts by DER Task Force, Constructive and Solar Punks proves that you can successfully build audiences around hard-to-quantify yet widely beneficial causes—so long as you approach them through genuine entertainment and authentic engagement.

DERVOS Leadership team

“The whole [DER Task Force and Constructive] team has loved the photographs. We feel like they really emulate the energy and the personality of all of the events. Thank you so much for your creativity and professionalism!”
