MoMA PS1: Seasonal Events
Our lead creative, Ryan Muir, has been a pivotal collaborator in documenting the vibrant arts programming at MoMA PS1’s contemporary art space. His work captures the essence of the museum's innovative exhibitions and dynamic courtyard music series, Warm Up. Through his lens, Muir has championed some of the most progressive and genre-defying sounds that resonate across the Queens landscape, offering a visual narrative that enhances the audience's experience of these groundbreaking events.
MoMA PS1: Warm Ups (2015-2025+)
Ryan Muir approaches PS1 Warm Ups with an instinct for movement and atmosphere, photographing the space as it shifts from daylight to dusk and the crowd settles into rhythm. His images balance the scale of the courtyard with intimate, human moments, capturing Warm Up as both a communal ritual and a living artwork.
Gala Afterparty (2024)
Ryan Muir photographed the gala afterparty produced by House of Sarlo with an emphasis on atmosphere, movement, and candid moments between performers and guests. His documentation captures the after-hours energy of the night, balancing polished production details with the looseness and intimacy of the celebration.
Pride Week : Wrestling with Choke Hole (2025)
Ryan Muir documented Pride Week at MoMA PS1 by capturing Choke Hole Wrestling’s performance with a focus on physical intensity, theatricality, and crowd reaction. His images frame the spectacle within the PS1 courtyard, highlighting how queerness, performance, and audience energy collide in a shared moment of celebration and release.
OPEN HOUSE: Rikrit Tiravanija “A Lot of People” (2024)
One of the notable exhibitions documented by Muir was Rikrit Tiravanija’s (Thai, b. 1961) showcase at MoMA PS1. The exhibition featured many of Tiravanija’s iconic interactive works, reflecting his interdisciplinary practice that engages with cultural differences, interrogates the parameters of place, and explores how people can come together. Muir's photography not only captured the physical aspects of Tiravanija’s installations but also the emotional and intellectual engagement they provoked in visitors, bringing the artist’s vision to a wider audience.
Remote / Pandemic Era Warm Up (2021)
In response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, MoMA PS1 produced its first-ever ‘virtual Warm Up’ broadcast, a groundbreaking initiative documented by Muir. This virtual event was screened at various venues throughout Brooklyn and Queens, drawing significant attention and participation. The broadcast aimed to support a fundraiser for struggling arts and nightlife venues affected by the economic impact of the pandemic, highlighting the critical role of community and solidarity in the arts sector during times of crisis.
